The Arabic phrase is illustrative, not a dataset example. Dialect coverage and additional language are TBC.

About the shared task

Understanding sentiment across language varieties

AbjadSentEval invites participants to build systems that recognise sentiment in texts from Arabic dialects and, subject to confirmation, an additional Arabic-script language. It builds on the DialectSentEval shared-task series while broadening the linguistic scope.

Input

Text in a target language variety

A short text in one of the supported dialects or languages, supplied according to the final dataset format.

Output

Sentiment prediction

A sentiment label for the input text. The final label inventory and output format will be published with the task guidelines.

Continuing scope

Arabic dialects

Sentiment analysis across Arabic dialects. The participating dialects and any MSA component will be specified in the 2027 task description.

Proposed extension

Additional Abjad language

One further language using an Arabic-derived script is planned. Its identity, dataset and evaluation track remain to be confirmed.

Data and evaluation

Training, development and hidden test data, permitted resources, evaluation metrics and submission format will be announced by the organisers. Previous DialectSentEval editions provide background, but their datasets and rules should not be assumed to apply unchanged to 2027.
